Milan and the Hosts

Milan is the capital of the Lombardy region, an international and cosmopolitan city with a dynamic economic environment, high quality services and a ‘smile’ atmosphere that combines a smart city with a pleasant living environment.

Milan is a city rich in art, culture and tradition, museums, architectural and artistic treasures, with the largest number of UNESCO sites in Italy (as many as 9!).  Milan is a financial and business centre and
the world capital of fashion and design. Milan is also the host of the World Expo 2015.

Milan and the Lombardy region have the largest multimodal public transport system in Italy. Milan is a good example of what political will can do to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
It combines an efficient public transport offering with private car restriction measures including congestion charging and strict parking policies.

Public transport is operated by ATM and FNM, hosts of the 61st UITP World Congress and Exhibition.

Established in 1931, ATM manages the public transport system – metro, tram, trolleybus and bus – and other services – bus on demand, car park and parking management, car sharing and bike sharing – in the Milan urban area and in 93 municipalities, serving a population of about three million inhabitants.

logo FNMFNM Group is the second-largest Italian railway company. The Group includes companies operating in the public transport field, both rail and road, in the railway engineering field, and in the service supply, information technology and sustainable energy and transportation fields. In 2011, with the creation of Trenord (a company constituted through the merger of FNM and Trenitalia), the Group modified its company structure.
