EU Projects Events

UITP – Leading Partner in European Projects

UITP has been a leading partner in a wide range of European projects for many years. These projects encompass most urban mobility-related issues: security, safety, network management, optimisation of urban rail systems, urban interchanges, energy efficiency, innovative bus systems, electrification of urban bus systems, ticketing, seamless mobility, etc.

UITP serves as a platform to inform its Members about EU funding opportunities and encourages them to take part in new projects. UITP members can closely follow the development and activities of ongoing projects as a project partner or a member of the UITP projects’ User Groups.

Thanks to high quality results, UITP has been recognised by the European Commission as a key interlocutor in the identification and promotion of the Public Transport stakeholders’ priorities for research and innovation.

ITxPT initiative, its objectives and achievements

Discover ITxPT and its exhibited integrated test-benches on UITP Stand!

The ITxPT Initiative (Information Technology for Public Transport) aims to further cooperate on the implementation of standards for plug-and-play IT-systems applied to public transport. An integrated testbench exhibited on the UITP Stand offers services to specify, test, qualify and showcase IT solutions. The presentation will focus on how ITxPT supports the deployment of standards and practices for onboard plug-and-play of IT-systems for public transport and the relevant back-office features…and so much more!

The NODES project intermediate results: which tools can improve the efficiency of urban transport interchanges?

The FP7 funded NODES project supports European cities, transport authorities and operators in the design and operation of new or upgraded public transport interchanges. With three months remaining until the project’s close, C. Hoogendoorn will present the project and its intermediate results.

PARALLEL SESSION 2 – WHAT IS AT STAKE FOR URBAN RAIL?

  • Discover more about this session here

As a part of this session, the moderator, Laurent DAUBY (UITP) will introduce the NGTC project. The initiative aims to analyse the synergies and divergences between Mainline (ETCS) and Urban Rail (CBTC) systems. This task is performed with the goal of determining the level of commonality of functional specifications, architecture and system design that can be achieved in order to prepare the Innovative Program “Advanced traffic management and control systems” of SHIFT2RAIL.

FOCUS SESSION 1 on electric buses: specifications, product solutions & future outlooks

  • Discover more about this session here

Electrification of bus systems is a great challenge for our cities. In Europe, the ZeEUS demonstration project is testing electrification solutions at the heart of the urban bus network through live operational demonstrations in order to facilitate the market uptake of electric buses in Europe.  As part of their presentations, Alex DE JONG (VDL) and Hector OLABEGOGEASKOETXEA (IRIZAR) will describe the ZeEUS Demonstrations of Münster and Barcelona.

  • Zero Emission Urban Bus System (ZeEUS) project: bringing electrification to the heart of the city

ZeEUS is a flagship demonstration project implementing Zero Emission Urban Bus System in European cities. 40 Partners coordinated by UITP are joining forces to extend the fully-electric solution to the core part of the urban bus network. Several electric bus solutions are demonstrated on high capacity buses in live operational scenarios across European cities. To facilitate the market uptake of electric buses, ZeEUS will provide decision makers with the necessary tools to evaluate the economic, environmental, operational and societal feasibility of electric urban bus systems. An Observatory aims to closely follow and discuss the progress of bus system electrification in Europe and contribute to its deployment strategies.
